Sunday 22nd September – Walk**** Le Havre, Pont de Normandie and
Honfleur - Cloudy
We had a very disturbed night because just after we had gone to bed the
local gary boys decided to descend on our car park and although they
didn’t cause any trouble they just chatted from 11.30 until 5.30a.m.!!
After breakfast we walked down to the prom, along to the jetty and back.
We left Le-Havre via our cycle route from yesterday and discovered that we
were on the right road on our last attempt but needed to go about another 5
miles!! We stopped at the Pont de Normandie bridge aire and walked right
over to past the mid way point! We couldn’t believe you could walk and
cycle over it. Had our lunch in the car park there and had a quick wander
along the duckboarded nature reserve section but we were getting bitten to
pieces so didn’t hang around! Drove over the bridge for 5.30 euros and
drove through Honfleur, we planned to stop here but being Sunday afternoon
it was heaving so decided to park outside and bike in to explore tomorrow.
Our plans were thwarted however because there was nowhere to park! We
drove for miles in the wrong direction to a really nice town with lots of
old buildings called Pont L’Eveque. Nowhere to stay but a cake shop with
a car park nearby! Bought me a cake and set out to return to Honfleur. We
parked up right on the banks of the Seine where we could see the cruise
liner moored up nearer the town. It is a no entry road which runs under
the Pont de Normandie and we shouldn’t be here really but lots of people
going along it to walk under the bridge. We had a cuppa and the cake and
then ended up having tea as well. Drove back into Honfleur in the evening
when it was dark to take photos. They have a big wheel which looked great
lit up and it closed just after we got there so it was good timing! We
walked round the old harbour and the tiny narrow streets looking at all the
mega expensive art galleries. It really is a lovely place, especially all
lit up and with so many people in the restaurants around the harbour.
Decided to chance going back to our place on the banks of the seine for the
night.
